Home sharing provides a supportive living arrangement for persons with diverse abilities who seek independence but require personal support. Kindale offers home share opportunities across various home types and welcomes a range of providers, from individuals to families.
Success relies on strong collaboration between the home share provider, individual, and coordinator, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment. Ongoing support and monitoring help maintain positive, long-term placements.
Kindale offers Community Living and Day Options for adults of all ages and abilities. These programs enhance skills, recreation, socialization, and community inclusion, significantly boosting self-esteem and quality of life.
Kindale is shifting services from sheltered settings to community-based options, especially for younger individuals who are unfamiliar with institutional programs and often reluctant to join traditional activities.
To support this, Kindale has opened two Community Inclusion Centres:
A resource and drop-in centre for younger people leading independent or semi-independent lives.
Encourages participants to engage actively in the community, with many activities held outside the centre.
A fully accessible centre that is evolving into a multi-use hub for various programs and partners.
Kindale owns and operates multiple group homes in the North Okanagan and Shuswap areas that provide safe and supportive housing for dozens of individuals.
Our residential homes are staffed 24 hours a day and are licensed through the Ministry of Health, who also monitors health and safety matters for each person served, both in and out of Kindale homes.
Each of our residences is designed and staffed to provide the residents with the most home-like atmosphere possible, located in typical residential areas and resembling other homes in the neighbourhood. Each resident enjoys their own bedroom or suite as well as spacious and comfortable living and dining rooms where they can relax and socialize. Wholesome and nutritious meals are prepared on-site, with the help of persons served (if possible), and everyone dines together.
Programs are prepared on an individual basis and are carried out in conjunction with the Person Centered Plans to provide maximum independence and support through individualised program planning using positive principles of Behaviour Management.
Kindale provides tailored employment support, including job coaching, workplace assessments, and employer support, helping persons served find meaningful, paid work that fits their skills.
Funded by CLBC and partnered with WorkBC, Kindale supports individuals throughout job search, placement, and sustained employment.
For Individuals:
Employment specialists help set goals, prepare resumes, connect with employers, and offer ongoing support.
For Employers:
Job coaches assist employees and employers until independence is reached, with support available anytime.
Kindale creates real jobs in local businesses, ensuring a good fit for both parties, delivering services flexibly.
WorkBC partnership extends employment services to the public, offering job search tools, counseling, and case management
Many of Kindale’s persons served live on their own in independent living arrangements in Kindale-owned homes, rented homes, or even homes that are owned by the person served. Kindale Outreach services allow the same level of independence while helping to support individuals with certain tasks that may not be easily accessible to them.
These sorts of services can include:
Assisting in meal
planning & preparation
Supporting grocery runs and supply needs
Guiding financial management and expense tracking
Providing rides for errands, appointments, and community outings
Aiding with household tasks like laundry and cleaning
Coordinating medical visits & health-related arrangements
Standing up for and representing the individual’s interests
Outreach Support provides targeted hourly support through one-on-one or group arrangements, both within and outside of the home environment. These services are funded by CLBC and are provided to the individual for a certain number of hours per week, depending on the level of need.
The focus of this program is not to do the tasks for the individual, but to assist the individual in doing tasks themselves in a safe and constructive way, while sustaining the independence of the person served.
